Welcome back to another edition of The Pentashield.

It has been a bit quiet on the club event side of things which gives one time to carry out all the general maintenance that I have been putting off. The poor charger has been a bit neglected of late but now I can give it back that loving feeling. New shocks front and rear, adjust and bleed the brakes, refit front and rear sway bars and had the diff reconditioned at long last. Just have to get the coolant changed now.

Looking back over the last couple of years of ownership, and the modifications performed, I must comment that the car has performed well above my expectations. Last year I had to replace the starter motor and associated wiring loom. Heat and age lead to the fatigue/failure of both (it gets pretty hot under my bonnet). The neck on the torque converter cracked on the A500. These are the same size as a 904. The only other failure was a pushrod through the rocker. None of these actually caused the car to stop. This is pretty good for a car that is over 25 years old and covers around 20,000km annually. Just a side note on when you modify a car it is still possible to get good power and reliability but you have to decide on where to limit the modifications such that you retain sane drivability. When going to car shows I see a lot of nice machinery but always question the street ability of these vehicles. Mind you they do have their place in the big scheme of things.

Congratulations to Paul and Zoe who recently tied the knot. There were a few club members that were invited and their cars made a fantastic wedding procession. These cars consisted of the following-: a Challenger, VG pacer, VC Utility and a CL Charger. Other cars were Paul’s XP Hardtop and an XC Cobra. Also there was a real clean magenta VH Charger. Leichardt will never be the same.

That’s enough ranting from me for now. Club Membership is now due. Thank you for your continued support. Don’t forget the AGM in August. Hope to see you at an event soon.

Regards,

Gerry.
