It doesn't seem like two months since I did my last events report, but
here we are again. I hope everyone had a good Easter holiday last month.
We've had a couple of big events since the last Pentashield came out.
Just before Easter we had the annual pilgrimage down south to Albury
for Chryslers on the Murray. A small contingent made an early departure
from Pheasants Nest before the sun rose. Gerry, Marianne and Alison in
the Neon, Peter in the 440 Charger, Kevin in the VC Ute, Tony with the
VH Pacer, George with the Challenger in tow also had former club member
Luke Eaton to keep him company and myself in the Pacer. It was a
pleasant trip with some rain spoiling the early part of the journey and
road works catching some of the convoy off guard at one point. A swarm
of bugs just before Holbrook made a small mess of the cars, but we were
relatively lightly hit compared to some vehicles that came down later
in the day. Whilst at Holbrook we took the opportunity to drop in on
Scott and Rhonda at there new residence before completing the journey
to Albury.
We were joined by other club members over the weekend including Sean,
the Webb clan, John and Janice, Graham and Ann and Fletch, who was
filming the activities for the official show DVD. Scott and Rhonda also
made the short trip to Albury and setup a traders stand to sell some
DVD's including the new CAVOA 2nd Annual Dyno Day DVD – now available
from Pentastar Parts. Sorry if I've forgotten anyone.
The weather once again was fantastic all weekend. A lot of US muscle
was out and about. You could be excused for thinking Challengers, Dodge
Chargers and Cuda's were a “dime a dozen”. The photo-shoot at the
Ettamoga Pub was something to behold – Mopar muscle everywhere and a
considerably better turnout than last year’s spotlight on the Pacer.
Sunday's show set a new record with 378 cars entered. There just wasn't
enough time to take in all the cars. If you only spent 30 seconds
looking at each car, it would have still taken more than 3 hours to
check out all the cars present.
George must be congratulated on picking up 3rd best Dodge Muscle car.
Quite a prestigious achievement in a very competitive field. One of the
top ten finalists in particular raised a few eyebrows (or dropped them)
but I was just stoked that the Pacer was able to fill a spot in that
elite field considering it was driven down in the rain and through a
swarm of bugs – my thanks must once again go to the boys (and Maz) who
helped clean and detail the car on Friday.
Monday saw a relatively pleasant drive back to Sydney. Tony was
fighting some fuel system problems, which gave us the opportunity to
pull over in Tarcutta and discover a relatively straight CL Ute parked
out the back of one of the shops.
The CAVOA Mopar drag day - one of the most anticipated events on the
Mopar calendar in Sydney, held on the 10th of April, was a huge
success. A report on the day may be found in this issue of the magazine.
The weekend after the drag day saw the annual All Chrysler Run
organised by members of the ACD committee. One of our clubs
representatives on the committee, Michael, was informed that the
departure time would be half an hour later than advertised (as they
were expecting some late arrivals) which was relayed to the club
meeting the Monday before the run. Unfortunately, on the day, the
organisers decided a delayed start wasn't required which resulted in
most of our club members missing the main departure and morning tea.
Never the less it was a more relaxed cruise with the small number of
vehicles. We made it to the main meet point at Wollongong and a
barbecue lunch and drinks were provided for CAVOA members. In light of
the recent controversy in the media of an inappropriate flag being
flown in someone’s backyard, it must be said one group present on the
run (from another club) was flying the Confederate battle flag. Perhaps
too they may plead ignorance, as did the subjects of the controversy in
the media, but the flag serves as a shameful reminder of slavery and
segregation and is also used by most extremist groups as one of their
symbols.
As you can see on the event calender we have a few events coming up. It
has been proposed that we arrange a Ten Pin bowling night – details
will follow in the next Pentasheet. We shall also be asking for
vehicles for the Motorex display along with volunteers to man the
stand. Pending no scheduling conflicts this years winter escape is
tentatively penciled in for late July, once again more details will
follow now that I have a chance to catch my breath following the drag
day.
Finally, to finish on a cheerful note, congratulations to Steve
Harrison and family who welcomed a new baby into the family and best
wishes to Paul and Zoi who are getting married in May.
Regards,
Nik
