Once
again Janice and I took the easy 7 hour drive south for this great
event. Firstly I must say what a great job the Albury-Wodonga
Chrysler Club does. This is an event to put on your calendar every
year. It is not just a car show but also a weekend festival of
Mopars. There is the Saturday morning tour, this year to Tallangatta,
the Super Cruise to Ettamogah Pub with the seminar and Sunday’s
Show & Shine. There is also the fabulous opportunity to talk to
enthusiasts from all over the country. There are even some
international visitors.
This
year it was focus on US Muscle and wasn’t there some to be
seen! So many E bodies (Dodge Challenger & Plymouth Barracuda)
and some B bodies (Dodge Chargers, Plymouth Road Runners and GTXs)
muscle on display was awesome. There was also a smattering of other
great American Mopars. Of special note was an immaculate 1960
Chrysler 300F. These were the first ‘muscle cars’, the
famous Chrysler Letter Cars debuted in 1955 with their dual four
barrel Hemi V8 power houses providing previously undreamt of
performance.
There
were many fine Aussie Mopars to be seen, including the last ‘real’
car made in Australia, the white CM Valiant sedan. All are welcome to
this excellent event and there are always a good variety of cars on
show and in the car park. Whatever you like, you are likely to find
examples of these great cars on display.
At
the Ettamogah Pub there are always some interesting speakers. This
year we were treated to a development engineer’s view of the
‘Hemi’ six and four! Once again Leo Geoghegan was on hand
and available for a chat.
As
well as the car show there is the swap meet and the many Traders
stands. One can go completely feral buying parts both new and used.
Next
year is focus on the Valiant Charger. I am already marking it down as
an event to attend for 2006.
