Welcome back to another events report. Well once again it has been a
busy couple of months over the Christmas and New Year break.
Well, it all started back in December with the club’s annual Christmas
picnic held at Cataract Dam this time around. A healthy number of
members showed up for a typical sweltering summer’s day in Sydney
followed by an afternoon storm.
Summernats was the first major show on the agenda for 2005.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend but all reports back indicate it
was another good year for the Mopar camp. Ray Snr was able to put
together enough cars to participate in the Supercruise under the CAVOA
flag.
January continued to be a busy month with the Dyno Day. The weather
didn’t look too promising early in the morning and we were expecting it
to keep entrants away. We were wrong, the inclement weather may have
kept some spectators away but the cars still came. There were 30
entrants registered by 9:30. A big thankyou to all who entered. A total
of 30 cars were put to the test on the dyno - all without incident. I
have to thank the entrants for being so patient and parking as
requested which made things run smoother the whole day and allowed us
to keep the cars moving through the complex. We were running a bit over
an hour behind the whole day after a slow start and it didn't help when
Mick would start tuning some of the cars on the dyno to get their
numbers up. Now you wouldn't get that opportunity at any other dyno
day. Goes to show the dedication of Mick and the rest of the staff over
at Mick's Motorsport.
Some interesting cars came along including a 440ci Jensen, a couple of
hemi and small block powered circuit racers and Russell's TNT265.
Horse power numbers seemed to be down for just about everyone so a few
people were speculating about the dyno showing lower numbers than it
should be. But, the best example of the dyno’s consistency against
other dynos would be Russell's E31 Pacer which pulled exactly the same
numbers as it did in Canberra 2 weeks prior.
Some brief statistics from the dyno day follow this report. Don’t
forget to check out the club’s website for pictures from the dyno day.
Hugh did a fantastic job and has provided us almost 200 pictures in the
gallery. Also keep an eye out for Scott’s DVD of the event.
The Sydney Car Festival was on the weekend after the Dyno Day. What
make this show stand out from all the others are the driving events.
Go-to-whoa, U-turn competition, burnouts and Dyno comp. Our own Ray Jnr
put in a fantastic effort and won the 6-cylinder class of the burnout
competition with the turbocharged VF Pacer. There was a reasonable turn
out of entrants and spectators, this show will only get bigger in the
years to come.
Our annual Darling Harbour Charity Display Day, or is that the
Valiant-times day display, was held on the 13th of February. Entrant
numbers were slightly down this year, but there was still a strong
turnout of vehicles. Some of the standouts were the Dodge Viper, the
blown 440 hardtop and the collection of 50s & 60s Mopars. Plenty of
T-Shirts are still available, so if you didn’t buy one on the day get
one before they run out.
Well, it’s that time of year again. Chryslers on the Murray at Albury
is only a few weeks away. We have a strong contingent going down once
again. Don’t miss this one as it’s simply the biggest and best Chrysler
show in the country.
We would like to confirm the hiring of the Western Sydney International
Dragway for the private drag racing day on Sunday April 10. Gerry has
been busy talking to the officials at the Western Sydney International
Dragway and has managed to get the number of entrants allowed up to 50
cars. This means the track will be better utilised and we now have
positions available that need to be filled. If you are interested in
participating please let Gerry or me know ASAP. More details are
available on the club’s website.
For those whose car survives the drag day at WSID, the following
weekend is the All Chrysler Day Run. Note there are two start locations
this year which will be meeting at the Bulli lookout and then
continuing on to Wollongong. More details below in the Scheduled
Events, or check www.allchryslerday.com for more details.
Regards,
Nik
