June 2006 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 28 November 2006

Well it is time again to read the bimonthly club magazine. This gives me the opportunity to sit down for half an hour and take time out to reflect on what has been happening out in Mopar land. How good was the Dyno Day? Once again there was a great variety of cars and people to make the day interesting. I was pleasantly surprised at most of the numbers that were peeled off and there were some absolute beauties. There were a few stand outs so please read the report and figures elsewhere in this issue. What was a massive surprise was when the Chrysler Crossfire turned up to see what was going on. One hour later we had one of Chrysler’s finest in our midst complete with huge 20” wheels giving Nik a run for his money as KING OF BLING. A big thank you to Nigel from Wagon Wheels for stopping to see what all the parked Vals were about and to Guy, from Wagon Wheels, for a tease on what some of us are missing out on!

It is good to see how our humble Mopars seem to be able to increase in street-cred with our peers. Ray Webb Jnr was able to keep smoking the bags long enough to get a photo in Street Machine Magazine. He made the URBAN WARFARE section written by Mark Arblaster. The article covers the fuel-injected and turbo-charged slant. Whilst it is able to pull the numbers when and where required you must also remember that this car is 100-percent street driven everyday, such is the manner of the monster. That’s something to be said about modern engine management. The King of Bling was able to stop polishing his car just long enough to make the current issue of Street Machine and has a full three page feature written by Scott Taylor. A good story and a few bits were learnt about our favourite trophy magnet. In a future issue there will be a write up of the Albury Wodonga Chrysler Club and their annual Chryslers on the Murray show. Not wanting to get off track here but I can’t emphasize enough just how good this show is. There is a really good photo of 2 blokey cars sitting at the traffic lights - one a mercury silver big block VH Charger and the other a white CL charger! Also Street Machine features Heidi Jackel in the Iron Maiden section with her Magenta VH Charger. From reading the article I believe she is single …. Make sure you grab a copy so the publishers know how much we like seeing a Val in their magazine. Still on the magazine side of the hobby, a new publication Street Action has recently hit the stands. In issue one it featured Zen’s VG sedan. In issue two it covers a couple of tough Vals and an article on Chryslers on the Murray as well (Told you this show is good!). Chrysler’s new bad boy the 300C, and its even badder-brother the SRT8, are also receiving many rave reviews from the local motoring scribes. I think Mopar has put the heart beat into cardiac arrest.

Being a member of www.v8owners.com I was on the receiving end of the phone for recruitment to a private drag day. These guys get out there several times through the year and the emphasis is to keep racing on the race track and off the road. These guys tried very hard to get involved with BEAT THE HEAT but politics got in the way at the 11th hour. This hasn’t dampened their enthusiasm for their racing. Not one to say no to a race, I thought I would oblige them. When an event organizer calls you up and asks you to attend the event it is not as if they have nothing to do: at times the whole event can be at risk of not running due to lack of numbers. Being the sole Chrysler that was going to attend on the day I called up the cavalry and George responded in his ever-tough Challenger, along with Frank Kanak in his Charger (probably one of the most unassuming guys of our fair hobby). Not to be out done it was a frantic phone call to Mick from Mick’s Motorsports to find some horses that have gone AWOL. I knew the horses were there but it was up to Mick to muster them together. A special big thank you to Mick for help getting my act back together at such short notice. An even more frantic phone call to PP&R, for some final tweaks then all was set. The car felt very strong and I was ready to kick some LS1 butt. Anyway the best laid plans and all of that….. all was not lost: George went onto a best of 12.6sec ET down our favorite hot mix and Frank also improved his PB to a 12.2sec ET. Well done and congratulations to all involved. Be sure to check out the website.

If anyone has ideas on how we can improve the club, for you its members, please feel free to drop either a line to me or one of our hard working committee members. Our June club meeting will have a lucky door prize and PICK that PART so come along and check it out. This is something we would like to do at more meetings.

Till next time - safe motoring.
