2nd Chrysler Nationals @ Tamworth 17th & 18th September 2005 PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 15 December 2005
Everyone loves a drive. If there is a gathering of Ma-Mopars at the other end on arrival – well, that’s even better. The mainstay of our CAVOA group left, destined for Tamworth, on the Friday. The second main-stay (Fletch from the Highlands & Murray from Goulburn) turned up Saturday after our nice trek. There is no doubt, that the cars turn heads. Even just our 2 cars single file suss out the rubbernecks….

Would you believe that on the way up, one of those underpowered, over rated slugs

(I think they are called a Subaru WRX Sti) decided to pick on Fletch for a small section of the run. Well folks it was on! As the big CM sleeper wrapped itself into a sweeper the size of a rainbow arc, progressive steering wheel movements along with a man with a beacon were utilized to keep the big girl in its lane. People of CAVOA, with similar mental dissorders, I kid you not, yes, the WRX went around me – slowly – and the revs the WRX was doing in 3rd were excessive. The CM was in top, and obviously a threat to the racer otherwise he would not have been pushing so hard. As for me, well, I didn’t go over 110 kph…….

I couldn’t help but wonder sometimes – turbo the 360? And take it to 7 grand….mmmm,

Nah – that’s cheating. If our friend removed his turbo, he’d have a Forester!! Really, we can laugh can’t we…let’s see him pull a boat with that device!!

Anyhow, Saturday was a little quiet at the old Tamworth, but it gave us all a chance to socialize in the car park of the Tamworth Towers, and ponder over how the next day was going to be. As we took our tools so that we could remove our eyebrow trims for something to do, and I shook a Hyundai from my air cleaner, we had beers and talked about everything….everything from cars, through to Gerry and his vacuum cleaner. I was amazed to hear what Gerry sucks up in his vacuum cleaner, no wonder the interior of the K16 is so immaculate – well done Gerry! You must be nuts !!

As the night rolled on and people became even happier, music entertained everyone in the car park of Tamworth Towers….and when I say everyone, I mean everyone, right through to 4am. Even people staying there that had nothing to do with our event were entertained. In fact one family loved the music and noise so much, they packed up their car and left the motel to find even louder music somewhere else. I don’t know why – they should have just stayed with us !!

Yes, Sunday arrives and the cars rolled in. Actually more than expected too. They seemed to appear from everywhere – none, and then some, resulting in around 90 cars, give or take a few. On Sunday arve, I showed Kevin from our club how my in-line filter works on my top radiator hose. To reduce the pressure, I removed the cap and placed it to one side. Just want to let you know Kevin that I found the cap…..still to one side 15 kays south of Tamworth on the way home resulting in a boiling cooling system. Yes…..even nice 360’s have to have their radiator caps in the “on” position. Thanks to Murray Quigg too, because as I chamoised the coolant off my paint, Murray fell down an embankment with my water container on his way to a nearby creek.

That was good for a laugh – he’s a tall bloke, and when he fell over he almost landed back in Tamworth.  It was good that I have that in-line strainer – I needed it to trap the bullfrogs from the stream.

Just a little from our weekend – for those of you that didn’t come away with us – and perhaps rarely do, may I on behalf of CAVOA encourage you to come on the next big event with us – you’ll have a really good time. That’s all from me, it’s church night tonight, I have to go and pull the balls at the rectory…...

Remember, enjoy driving your Mopar – and don’t laugh at other people’s misfortunes.

Take care – Fletch.
